Highlights from 2000
-
On the weekend of Friday 17
th
-Sunday 19
th
March, the Meadows and Bluebell Elfins and the Southside Pioneers went to
Dunolly
House in Aberfeldy for another adventure packed weekend.
-
The mini-camp at Yair on the weekend of 19
th
- 22
nd
May proved to be successful, with 19 Elfins, 16 Pioneers, 1DF and 27
adults staying under canvas. The Clan names were based on the planets of the
solar system.
All the children went for a walk on the Saturday. Well done to the pioneers who
were able to get ready in time to catch the 10.30 a.m. bus to Innerleithen,
from where they walked back 18 km to camp along the
Southern Upland Way
. The Elfins did a circular walk of 10 km taking in the Three Brethern at the
top
The theme of space was cemented with the in-camp activities day when everybody
had fun making water rockets, chemical rockets and solid fuel rockets All these
went off with some sort of bang! On the arts side a moon mobile designed by
Susan kept the space theme going. Pictures and further reports to follow! But
many thanks to all who attended and helped in some way to make this another
fine weekend for the children.

Due to the sterling efforts of Jackie Cummings and Jean Bareham with the
help of the Venturers the plant sale raised over £350 for District Funds. This
was a good co-operative event from the littlest efin who 'potted on' to the
Venturers who did the home baking and helped sell the teas. Well Done!
-
Woodcraft as part of their 75
th
anniversary celebrations help out at the Meadows Festival on the weekend of 3
rd
June. There were lots of parachute games and many glass jars painted as well
as faces! The bluebells show off their wonderful anniversary banner.
-
The weather was kind to the 51 people who came on the bus trip to the RSPB
nature reserve at St. Abb's Head on Sunday 11
th
June . On view at the
reserve were guilliemots, shags, kittiwakes, herring gulls and most exciting of
all puffins! Due to an extended lunch break for pool dipping the walk around
the reserve finished at 4 p.m which only allowed an hour of playing on
Coldingham sands but this was enough time for sand to get everywhere as usual.
Singing songs on the way back made the return journey seem reasonably quick
with the bus returning to Edinburgh at 6 p.m.
-
The Celtic summer camp was held in North Wales at Ruthin in Denbighshire
from Saturday 29
th
July to Sunday 6
th
August. Edinburgh shared their village with the Elfins and Pioneers from
Shropshire and everybody had a great time.
