The Woodcraft Folk in Edinburgh have four Elfin groups (6 – 9 years old), three Pioneer groups (10 –12 years old), a Venturer group (13-15) and a District Fellows (DFs) group (16 - 20 years old). We aim to promote the involvement of parents and volunteers in fun and educational activities with young people between six and fifteen from diverse backgrounds. We encourage our members to care for their environment, resolve conflict without violence and build cooperation. Our weekly programme includes games, singing, arts and crafts around themes as well as issue based activities such as anti-racism, environmental awareness and combating social exclusion.

We also have an active outdoor programme. At both Group and District level there are opportunities during the year to have weekends away either hostelling or camping. Every year Edinburgh Woodcraft organises two large camps one at Yair just outside Galashiels during the Victoria Weekend in May and a week long summer camp usually in the first week in August. Summer camps have been held in Castle Douglas, Inverness, Blairgowrie as well as in Wales.

At present Edinburgh Woodcraft groups are located in Bruntsfield, Portobello and Wester Hailes. These are, in the main, parent – led co-operative groups. These are groups where the onus of organising and running the group is shared by the parents and carers of the young people. In order to comply with our child protection policy and insurance requirements all adults and carers are requested to become members of the Woodcraft Folk.

All adults working with the young people are submitted for Disclosure Scotland checks.
