What Happens at a Group Night? |
Possible Activities |
A group meeting
usually lasts for approximately 90 mins. and a rousing chorus of 'Link Your Hands Together' to conclude the evening. For child protection purposes all children must sign in when arriving. When everybody has arrived the person in charge shouts WOODCRAFT! - this requires the young people to respond with a shout of FOLK! - and to stop what they are doing and listen for instructions. At the start of a group evening a circle is usually called. The Woodcraft Folk is a democratic organisation and a circle symbolises the equality of all, both young people and adults. Within this first circle everyone is asked to give their name and share their news, or whatever point they wish to raise, with the rest of the group. A couple of games are then played to run off some energy or possibly to try and focus the young people on whatever the programme is for that evening. The next 20/30 mins is where the young people get time to try their hand at arts, crafts, drama or there may be an invited speaker. After tidying up and if there is any time left a quick game and possibly a song or two in the circle before the announcements for next week are made. Then everyone links hands for the closing ceremony. This involves reciting the creed :- This shall be for a bond between us |
